Old City Hall Subway Station was closed to the public in 1945. Part of the IRT system, it opened in 1904 as the showpiece station complete with Guastavino tile walls, vaulted ceilings and fanciful leaded skylights. There are virtually no straight lines in the station due to the platform being on a circular loop used to turn the southbound 6 train northwards. Apart from an offical NYC Transit Museum Tour (which there have only been a handful of since 1999) the only other way to see the station is to persuade a southbound 6 train driver to let you stay on the train after the Brooklyn Bridge subway station. The station was the inspiration for the fictional "Van Horne" station in the film Ghostbusters II. For more details on this and the station in general click here.
