Around Town 15 October 2006

Anish Kapoor's Sky Mirror is a breathtaking, 35-foot-diameter concave mirror made of polished stainless steel. Standing nearly three stories tall at the Fifth Avenue entrance to the Channel Gardens at Rockefeller Center, Sky Mirror offers a dazzling experience of light and architecture, presenting viewers with a vivid inversion of the skyline featuring the historic landmark building at 30 Rockefeller Plaza.

David Blaine - May 2006

Magician David Blaine's latest stunt was to spend over seven days underwater in what can only be described as an over-sized goldfish bowl at New York City's Lincoln Center Plaza. Before emerging from the water his finale was attempting to hold his breath for nine minutes whilst simultaneously escaping from chains. Unfortunately he blacked-out after seven minutes and was pulled from his tank by his assisting divers. Good effort though.

Statue Of Liberty

The Statue Of Liberty is perhaps one of mankind's most iconic structures. Below are some pictures including a full-size replica of the face, the original "torch" and details of the internal structure of the statue.

Top Of The Rock

The Top Of The Rock is probably the best view you'll get of Manhattan. There are three levels of viewing area sat atop the GE Building at Rockefeller Center. There are no queues and you can stay up "on top" for as long as you want and it's never too crowded. The day I went up was rather hazy so the pictures didn't come out too well. One of the best bits is the ascent/descent in the Elevator - suddenly the elevator roof becomes transparent and the elevator shaft lights up whilst you hurtle up/down - very cool.
