An unseasonably warm January gave way to a chilly February when one of the largest snowstorms to hit the North East since records began in 1869 came along. I don't think Boston got it as bad as New York or Washington DC however it was more than enough snow for me! There's just under 2 feet of snow on the table beside my Barbie outside the flat...

One of the guys at work owns a boat so we went out on it one Friday after work. From Quincy we went over to Boston Light (one of the original New England Lighthouses) and from there up towards Boston Harbor, stopping under the flight path into Logan Airport and then up past the Financial District and over to the Leverett Bridge (part of the Big Dig project) and the USS Constitution. We got dropped off in the center of Boston Harbor and proceeded to the nearest Public House. Roll on next Friday, we can do it all again...

Harvard Bridge is the link which joins the City of Boston with Cambridge where MIT (Massachusetts Institue of Technology) is. Curiously this bridge is marked on both sides with painted "Smoot" marks. The entire bridge is 364.4 Smoots long (+ 1 ear). For the full story click here.

The 4th of July is of course Independence Day however in the US everyone wishes each other a "Happy Fourth". Boston plays host to a nationwide audience as the Boston Pops play their famous 4th of July concert at the Hatch Shell on the banks of the Charles River as part of Boston's July 4th celebrations.

We were lucky enough to get tickets to the Community Boating Organisation's "July 4th Sailabration" on the banks of the Charles River a few hundred yards from the Concert venue.

Boston's Fireworks are broacast across the US by CBS and watched locally by around 500,000 from the banks of the Charles River.
